About the Artist
Beth L Bauer
Beth Bauer is a residential artist in Anchorage, Alaska. Plein air and painting from life is her preference; this allows her to “paint the atmosphere and emotion” of the given subject. Her innate attraction to color, light, and reflections is apparent in her work. Her love of exploring these relationships results in a wide variety of subject matter. She has studied internationally and shown her work, winning awards in juried exhibitions.
Beth was born and grew up in Alaska. She was fortunate to grow up in a family that encouraged innovation and creativity. Her journey began with crayons, broadened through watercolors, and is now being expanded with oil paints.
As a working single mother, Beth attended evening classes related to her employment and Art at University of Alaska Anchorage. At the age of 35, Beth was able to attend UAA full time, obtaining a BA in Art and Elementary Education. After graduation, she made a career change to teach Art with the Anchorage School District.
Beth takes classes and workshops in Alaska, the continental US, and abroad. While traveling, Beth photographs and paints sketches of places for further study in her home studio. She is a signature member of the Alaska Watercolor Society, the Alaska Artists Guild, and Plein Air Painters of Alaska.
Now retired from teaching, Beth is enjoying “snowbirding” in Kona, Hawaii, traveling and painting.
